How Do HVAC Systems Work?
HVAC systems are designed to keep indoor spaces comfortable by controlling the temperature, humidity, and air quality. These systems work by moving air through a network of ducts and using various components to heat or cool the air as it moves through the system.
The main components of an HVAC system include the furnace, air conditioner, evaporator coil, condenser coil, ductwork, and thermostat. Each of these components has its own function. The furnace is responsible for heating the air, typically using either gas or electricity, and the air conditioner is responsible for cooling the air with a refrigerant, both of which are then circulated through the ductwork and into the living spaces.
The evaporator coil and condenser coil are part of the air conditioning system. While the evaporator coil is responsible for absorbing heat from the inside air, the condenser coil is responsible for releasing the heat absorbed by the evaporator coil outside.
The component responsible for moving the heated or cooled air throughout the building is the ductwork, which is typically made from sheet metal and is sealed to prevent air leakage. The thermostat is used to control the temperature of the building and can be set to a specific degree. The HVAC system will turn on and off as needed to maintain the set temperature.
The HVAC system also works to maintain proper ventilation and air quality by bringing fresh outdoor air into the building and removing stale indoor air through exhaust vents. It is important to note that HVAC systems can be more complicated and may have additional components depending on the specific type of system and the building’s needs. For example, some systems may include air cleaners, humidifiers, and UV lamps for air purification.

The basic process of how an HVAC system works is by sensing the temperature in the building and turning the furnace or air conditioner on or off as needed to maintain that temperature. The heated or cooled air is then blown through the ductwork and into the living spaces, maintaining proper ventilation and air quality.
