Adding Fresh Air to Your Home

Fresh air is a gift from God!  I think of cool summer mornings, cup of coffee on the patio, no High Plains wind, chillin’ and at peace.  But what about your home?  Do you think your home air is cleaner than outside air?  Think again.

When we think of our home, its inside air.  It should be clean but is it.  According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, indoor air is more unhealthy than outdoor air.  Your asking why, well, dust and other particles can contaminate your home, as well as mold, mildew, and viruses.  If you don’t clean your home at least weekly, and change out filters regularly, the air in your home can make you sick.   But there is more you can do. One is indoor air quality products, from Air Oasis.  Products like their Nano UV System.  And you can add a fresh air vent to your home.

Your HVAC take in the air within your home and push either cooled or heated air around your home.  Problem is the air doesn’t regenerate itself, as in adding clean air.   Bringing in fresh air into your HVAC brings some balance to your air, cutting down on all contaminants.

The pictures are Adam’s Air adding an air duct to your system.  You must remember however you need something inside your HVAC to clean the inside air.  That’s where Air Oasis comes into play.  Look at other blog posts for Air Oasis’ product for further reading.

Heat Exchanger and Cracks Cause Big Problems

So your carbon monoxide alarm goes off at bedtime, its cold outside and you don’t want to turn your heater off but breathing carbon monoxide is by no means healthy, so first thing you call the fire department, they will more than likely condemn your heater and shut the gas off to your home. Then you call us. Over heating in your furnace can and will cause cracks.

So what causes cracks? Your system over heats and it causes stress on the exchanger. The stress is from the expansion and contractions of the metal, and over time the heat will start making cracks. Now, how many times do we tell you to change your air filters in your HVAC? If you follow us on social media we bring it up quite often. NOT CHANGING YOUR AIR FILTER could cause damage to your heat exchanger. Please change your filter at least every three months, we go every two months in our home. A clogged air filter restricts air going though your system, and the system can’t breathe and results in stress cracks.

Now of course the worse thing that can happen when you have cracks is that it will make carbon monoxide, which can lead ot illness and often death of the occupants of the home. Infants and small children and the elderly are effected quicker in some cases. If you don’t have a CO alarm go buy one, in some cases the fire department will give you one at no cost. If you have a larger house you will need more CO alarms. Call Adam’s AIr if you want us to check your system.

The True Meaning of Christmas.

The Christmas story is recorded in Luke 2:4-19.

“So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’

“Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.’

“When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.’ So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” (Luke 2:4-19)

True Meaning of Christmas: Celebrating the Savior

Jesus was born in order to pay the price for the things we have done wrong: sin. God sent his only son to be the atonement for all our sins so that we would not be separated from God. Without Jesus, we would all die for our sins. We inherited our sin nature from the first human beings God created, Adam and Eve. While being fully God and yet fully man, Jesus came into the world as an infant to save us all.

Most Christmas traditions vary in significance and symbolic meaning. For example, we exchange gifts because God sent us the most precious gift: his only Son. Also, three wisemen visited Jesus and brought gifts as well. A poem titled A Visit from St. Nicholas penned in 1822 popularized the tradition of exchanging gifts too.

Although people worldwide celebrate Christ’s birth on December 25th, it was likely that he was born on in a different month and date. The church in the 4th century chose December 25th as it coordinated with the Solstice on the Roman Calendar. For Christians, the true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of the Savior, Jesus Christ. We know that through belief in the Christ we are daughters and sons of God. Heaven will one day be our home. Perhaps this will help you look at the Christmas season differently this year. A chance to truly take in the wonder and awe of the season. Winter in the High Plains of Texas

It’s the first week of November and we have a good 4-5 inches of snow under our belts already!  That tells us that we will more than likely get more snow and winter isn’t even officially here.  So, we were thinking of the top items that your heater is not warming your home as it should, and it seems it is working way too hard to keep up and still not heating your home.  One item you can think about, especially in older homes is how is the insulation in the attics?   I live in a 56-year-old home.   It needed some love and we decided to purchase it and fix it up.   After several 1000’s of dollars we thought we were good.  Ahh but we had an electrician up in the attic and he said there was less than four inches of insulation in the attic in some places none.  That got fixed quickly, now we don’t have those cold rooms inside anymore.  Oh, by the way, Adam’s Air does insulation!  Here are a few other items you need to be aware of and think about.

  • We do Winterization for free if you own your home.  It’s a 20-point check list of important items to make sure that when you do turn your heater on, it comes on and works and warms your home properly
  • Carbon Monoxide poisoning is deadly.  It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless.  It’s a silent killer. It is produced by the burning of gas, wood, propane, charcoal, or other types of fuel via combustion engines, appliances, or heating systems, it kills 400 people a year.  Every home should have at least two detectors with fresh batteries.
  • A simple item, and it’s the one of the easiest items that you the homeowner can do.  CHANGE THE FILTER!!!!!  When a filter is clogged it can break down the flow of heat and air and your system works overtime to make sure your home is comfortable.
  • How old is your thermostat?  If its older than 10 years you should replace it with an efficient and newer model.  This will help regulate the air at the right temperature all the time.
  • During our inspection there could be noises coming out of your system.  Could be several items, like a clogged coil or a fan motor and wheel caked with good old West Texas dirt. We can fix this at a minimal cost.
  • Dry Air is a problem with wintertime.  Humidifiers help place moisture in the air and it would be a great item to purchase.  Also, Adam’s Air works closely with Air Oasis, with their clean air products that work and are fantastic for clean fresh air.

We want our customers to breathe easier this winter.  We want our customers to stay warm this winter in your own home.  Call us today to schedule your Winterization.

You Only Thought it Was Thanksgiving

I was googling for a blog post about crazy Thanksgiving meals or the worst Thanksgiving fails, and I came across this article taken from Woman’s Day from about 10 years ago.  Its disgusting to say the least and the photos will go from left to right per paragraph.  Enjoy please.  Most people only enjoy one Thanksgiving feast each year. But those of you who simply can’t get enough may want to try one of the unique eats below. From pumpkin fortune cookies to turkey gravy and cranberry cupcakes, here are eight unusual items that capture the essence of the Thanksgiving table.

Tofurky & Gravy Soda

If you’re a big soda drinker who loves Thanksgiving dinner, then your wildest dreams have come true. Jones Soda Co., which is famous for its limited-edition holiday concoctions, rolled out Tofurky & Gravy Soda this season. Based on the vegetarian Thanksgiving meal, the Tofurky flavor is vegan-friendly and sugar-free. (This isn’t the first time Jones has embraced Turkey Day flavors. In 2004, the company offered a five-pack of sodas that included the following flavors: Green Bean Casserole, Mashed Potato & Butter, Fruitcake, Cranberry and last—but certainly not least—Turkey & Gravy.)

Turkey Dinner Layer Cake

Foodie and Chow.com contributor Amy Wisniewski created the ultimate one-stop Thanksgiving meal. What looks like a cake is actually alternating layers of stuffing and ground turkey mixed with instant oatmeal, “frosted” with mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes, and topped with lightly browned mini marshmallows. Sure, it may seem appealing at first glance, but we think we’ll stick with compartmentalizing our food. Photo courtesy of Chow.com

Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts

Now here’s something we can sink our teeth into! Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts has released its latest limited-edition flavor: Frosted Pumpkin Pie, available through mid-December. The baked breakfast pastry is filled with a sweet mixture of pumpkin pie, nutmeg, cinnamon and clove, and finished with iced frosting and autumn-colored sprinkles. Photo courtesy of Pop-Tarts

Pumpkin Pie Fortune Cookies

If you’re feeling lucky this Thanksgiving, try these pumpkin pie–flavored fortune cookies from Fancy Fortune Cookies. Made with real pumpkin, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg, the cookies come covered in dark, milk or white chocolate and contain one of five custom fortune cookie messages inside. Not only do they sound delicious, but they make the perfect gift for guests or your Thanksgiving host! Photo courtesy of FancyFortuneCookies.com

Turkey Gravy Cranberry Cupcake

If you enjoy savory-sweet combinations, this cupcake is for you! Made by Los Angeles–based Yummy Cupcakes, the treat features a turkey-flavored cake that’s baked with savory turkey gravy, filled with cranberry relish and topped with cranberry cream cheese. The boutique bakery didn’t stop there—it also dreamt up three other unique Thanksgiving flavors: Marshmallow Yam, Apple Pie and Pumpkin Pie. Photo courtesy of Yummy Cupcakes

Lay’s Turkey Potato Chips

And we thought Lay’s Dill Pickle chips were unusual. This savory chip is only available in China, which is too bad, because according to a contributor at Taquitos.net: “They really do taste like turkey with gravy…It’s like combining the best parts of Thanksgiving dinner, all in one bag.”

Roasted Turkey Doritos

What’s better than roasted turkey? Roasted turkey-flavor Doritos. What’s better than roasted turkey-flavor Doritos? Roasted turkey–flavor Doritos in the shape of a Christmas tree, of course! Though these festive snacks aren’t available in the U.S., you can easily find them in Taiwan. Photo courtesy of Scott Kleinberg/RedEye

Mashed Potatoes and Gravy Jelly Beans

For a quick taste of Thanksgiving dinner, give these little jelly beans a whirl. Part of the unusual Harry Potter Bertie Bott’s Jelly Beans Bag, the Mashed Potatoes and Gravy beans are just two unusual flavors in a mix that includes everything from ketchup to sausage. Although weirdly tasty on their own, the potatoes and gravy combined will give you the full holiday effect.
